Try your hand at soldering, find out how electrical circuits work and solder your own device to keep. There are several kits to make for different ability levels – flashing lights, buzzing puzzles, musical instruments and programmable robots.
The workshop takes a slightly different format for schools and festivals:
For schools
Duration: 2 hours. In the first half of the workshop, students will join our presenter for an interactive talk about electricity, how circuits work and what components are involved in making simple circuits. We will discuss how to solder, what to take into account to make a circuit work and how to keep safe. In the second half, students have plenty of time to carefully solder together their own circuit kits to make a working device that they keep at the end of the session. Our presenter will guide students as they work, providing one-to-one support as required. This session is also suitable for community groups.
For festivals
Duration: 60-90 minutes. This workshop has a briefer introductory session and is best delivered with the support of attending adults to assist their children in circuit-assembly, using simple instructional notes. Participants solder their own circuit kits with the support of adult helpers to make a working device that they keep at the end of the session.
We provide all tools, materials and safety equipment for the workshop.
